Tachometer Setting
1. Tachometer Signal Input
There are three proper methods for obtaining the tachometer signal:
Method 1 – Gear-Mounted Speed Sensor (Hall Effect or Magnetoelectric Sensor) Install a speed sensor facing the gear shaft to obtain the signal.
- Make sure the sensor directly faces the gear.
- Maintain a gap of no more than 1.5 mm between the sensor and gear.
Method 2 – Ignition Coil Negative Terminal Connect the tachometer signal wire to the negative (-) terminal of the ignition coil.
- No additional sensor is required.
- If the reading is unstable or affected by interference, you may connect a 56 kΩ resistor (any wattage) in series with the signal wire.
Method 3 – Alternator W-Terminal Connect the tachometer signal wire directly to the W-terminal output of the alternator.
- No additional sensor is required.
2. Speed Ratio Setting
Once you have confirmed the signal source, please make sure the tachometer's speed ratio is correctly adjusted.
The required ratio can vary depending on the signal source, even when using the same engine. The ratio is adjustable and can be fine-tuned according to your specific setup.
- 4-cylinder: 002.0
- 6-cylinder: 003.0
- 8-cylinder: 004.0
3. Tachometer Filter
Tachometer signals can sometimes fluctuate due to electrical interference. In this case, we recommend using the appropriate tachometer filter to help eliminate unwanted pulse interference and stabilize the RPM reading.
- No. 22 Filter – Suitable for single-coil or point-style coil ignition systems.
- No. 24 Filter – Suitable for High Energy Ignition (HEI) systems.
Please select the filter that best matches your vehicle's ignition system and signal characteristics.
