Up for sale is an authentic antique wooden tray from the Republic of China era, dated to the "Dingmao" year, which corresponds to 1927. This piece showcases traditional Chinese calligraphy and beautiful, hand-applied lacquer, serving as a genuine piece of early 20th-century folk art
Preowned : Condition Report:
This item is approximately 100 years old and has been well-loved, maintaining a beautiful, authentic patina that only age can provide. Please note the following condition details:
Wood Split: There is a visible, vertical split running through the center of the wooden planks (please see photos). This is consistent with the age and natural expansion/contraction of wood over a century. The piece remains structurally sound and stable for display.
Wear & Patina: The surface shows expected age-related wear, including minor scuffs, fading of the red lacquer, and small chips on the edges, which add to its rustic charm and history.
Originality: The piece is in original, "as-found" condition. I have chosen not to refinish or repair it, preserving its historical integrity.
Historical Context:
The hand-painted calligraphy on the front features the year 1927 (Republic of China era) and the name/shop mark "Chen Qiyou," indicating it was likely a custom or commercial piece from that time. It would make a unique statement piece for any home decor, particularly for those who appreciate Wabi-Sabi or historical Asian aesthetics.
