This modified 1988 Ford Mustang 5.0 convertible is an absolute representation of late 1980's and early 1990's American street car.
It has been outfitted with Saleen style ground effects and whale tale. It is RAW -- the way you would have built it back in the period when these cars were new and some of the fastest street cars on the road. Little kids point and stare, heads turn and it's more or less a time capsule toy for adults. I've been involved with this car for over three decades, it's past two owners have sadly passed -- but you have to understand they all contributed to making this car what it is today. For that reason I have left it mostly alone to preserve the memories and the charms of the era -- but I can assure you that if this car could tell stories, it would mention it's Detroit Joy Road history with some of the old school players -- even it's origin story of being in a fender bender before it was ever registered for sale by a super high up at Ford Motor Company (some say an actual Ford family member) in Dearborn Michigan. Shows you just how deep this Mustang rolled back in it's day.
This 1988 Ford Mustang LX convertible has been heavily modified.

Two decades of building, over $20,000 in late 1990's and early 2000's dollars JUST IN PARTS. Vehicle needs the interior trimmed out, has some damage to the hood and cowel once when it flew up - includes extra hood, exact same. Has brand new windshield. Has small area on rear trunk that paint flaked off, no rust on area. Torque boxes are solid and not pulled out.
Engine is high compression at over 10.5:1, built for nitrous with forged pistons and balanced lower end. Has never had nitrous run on engine. Engine was built in 2001 and has less than 20,000 miles on it, odometer is not native to the car (they did not offer the 140mph speedo in 1988) so this IS NOT the actual milage. Engine runs strong. Also has a gear drive timing system that really gives it a whine. HAS NO TOP INSTALLED (but includes a new aftermarket top in the box)! Bring a tarp if you’re driving it home long distance.
The photo is the engine being built back in 2000's along with a photo of the SVO brake kit that was purchased as a kit are actual photos back when these mods were done. All other photos except for those two mentioned above are recent as of 30 days of the time this listing was made. All parts mentioned above are installed, however there are some trim parts, including two more rims and a steering wheel that will be included along with another top, frame, pistons, pump and many other goodies.
Vehicle is being sold AS IS with ALL SALES FINAL. Vehicle is registered as a historical vehicle ($30 for 10 years) and insured for $28,000 at $28 per month (your rates may differ). Buyer is responsible for any emissions requirements in their state, currently has off-road exhaust. No test-drives, only test rides to qualified buyers. I realize you could get a low mile stock Mustang for a similar price, but you would never be happy with a stock Mustang, nor would I, and that is why this time capsule of the era is worth every penny of it's asking price.
Thank you for reading... again, vehicle is being sold as-is with no warranty. Please contact me with any questions, or if you would like to view the vehicle. Buyer is responsible for pickup and or delivery of the vehicle. Please understand this car is very personal to me and as such I'm firm on the price. That is why it's being listed in salvage / parts section. It has a clean green Michigan title with no liens ready for immediate transfer.
Video was taken two years ago in July... the weather is starting to turn so I may make a new one, but it runs just as good today as it did in the video. Vehicle has always been stored indoors during my ownership. Some of the photos of the engine while being built and other performance parts being installed were taken back 1999-2001. LAST PHOTO SHOWING THE ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE $65,000 SALEEN IS NOT THE VEHICLE FOR SALE IN THIS LISTING AND IS ONLY SHOWN TO REPRESENT THE CLONED LOOK OF THE INSTALLED BODY KIT.
