At the very minimum, you should verify cap finish and diameter using the information above. Most caps have at least 2 variations that look alike and only differ in size and/or finish.
- Verify Diameter: Most caps have 2 or 3 variations that only differ in size. Grab a tape measure and match up the size.
- Verify Finish: Most caps are offered in several finishes (chrome, silver, gloss black, satin black, etc.). Wipe the dust off your cap and get a good look at the finish and match it up. The most common finishes are chrome, gloss black and satin/matte black. The logos on the cap can differ from the cap finish.
- Casting Numbers: Casting numbers can be found molded into the cap. Since caps are modular and made up of several parts, casting numbers can appear on several different part numbers that share the same components. Castings are also finished differently so you can have the same casting numbers found on multiple finishes of the same cap. Over time, molds are updated and/or moved to different production facilities and as a result casting numbers change so they may or may not match what you have. Always try to match based on look/style, size and finish and not necessairly on casting number.
