Add A Tilt Column to Your 54-56 GM Truck and Retain Your Interior’s Stock Appearance
The tail end of the Advance-Design (AD) Chevy truck model years morphed into the Chevrolet Task Force series of trucks in 1955. The 1954 model was a bit of a “one year wonder” while the 1955 and 1956 Chevy Task Force trucks brought on such popular updates as optional power steering, four-speed manual, and a 12-volt electrical system. Of course, the big visual difference being the new wrap around windshield without the center peak/divider that the 47-53 trucks used. Some refer to these trucks as the Chevrolet Cameo truck but note that is simply a package that was offered on the Task Force line of trucks.
These trucks are popular bones for custom builds these days, including Pro Touring-type setups on down to the stock appearing with an LS swap and some comfort and convenience updates. However, much like the AD series before it, the Chevy Task Force trucks featured a fixed column with a large 18-inch diameter steering wheel to provide more steering leverage due to the manual steering system. This is true even of the Chevy Cameo model. Most builds today will use either a 69-94 GM tilt column from the salvage yard, or a 55-59 Chevy Truck Tilt Column to provide easier ingress/egress and a more comfortable driving position. That’s all well and good, but most aftermarket steering wheels can look, shall we say, a bit out of place. So, we designed a replica of the original ’54-’56 classic steering wheel, but in a smaller 15-inch diameter sized to work well with power steering assist and to fit common GM tilt columns.

We created this all new vintage chevy steering wheel for the 1954-1956 Chevrolet Task Force series pickups to provide that great period look but in a smaller 15-inch diameter for more driver comfort. Knowing how popular a tilt steering column upgrade is, we designed our new aftermarket Chevy truck steering wheel with a standard 1969-1994 GM center spline to easily mount this steering wheel to your GM tilt column or aftermarket tilt column you are installing or have installed already with an aftermarket steering wheel that just doesn’t vibe with your stock-look interior.
Not all reproduction vintage steering wheels are made the same. Just like the original Task Force Chevy truck steering wheel (only with a smaller diameter) our wheel features a welded steel steering wheel core and spokes for strength that is then placed in an accurate mold of the original wheel’s design and molded with OE like durable satin black urethane materials just like the original. The scaled down aftermarket Chevy truck steering wheel design is so accurate it even allows the use of the original or reproduction horn button cap and contact plate for that perfectly correct look. This steering wheel kit includes a reproduction 54-56 horn button cap with black ribbed background and chrome Chevy Bowtie, just like the original piece. Also included is the horn button contact plate and retainer kit, making your new steering wheel installation a breeze.

Summary: I realy like the Wings design. The splines will fit, but the hub dose Not fit a '57 Chevy, due to the Stock tapered shaft being a larger diameter. I altered the design of the hub to make it fit the taper. Looking good. I may buy another one for a project I'm building with a Speedway column.
