The meter stay is the structure behind the fairing: it carries theinstrument cluster, the mirrors, the headlight assembly, and the upperfairing itself. It bolts to the frame and it holds the front of themotorcycle together.
Which is why a crash bends it, and why a bent one cannot be lived with.
A meter stay that has been tweaked - even slightly, even by an amount youcannot see against a straight edge - puts every panel it carries out ofposition. The fairing gaps do not close. Worth saying plainly, because it is the alternative most people considerfirst.
Aluminium that has been bent has yielded. Bending it back does not undothat - it work-hardens the material at the bend, and work-hardened aluminiumis brittle. The component is weaker after straightening than before,sometimes considerably.
On a bracket carrying the instruments, the mirrors, the headlight and theupper fairing of a motorcycle ridden at speed, that is not where toeconomise.
There is also a practical problem: getting the geometry right by eye isessentially impossible. A stay out by two degrees looks straight and putsevery fairing gap wrong.

CHECK WHAT ELSE THE CRASH BENT
If the meter stay is bent, the impact reached the front of the motorcyclewith some force. With the fairing off, inspect:
- The frame mounting points the stay bolts to - The forks and yokes - a bent stay very often accompanies bent forks - The headlight assembly and its mounts - The instrument cluster itself - The fairing brackets and the fairing
Fitting a new stay to a frame with damaged mounting points achieves nothing.
Check the frame carefully. On a motorcycle that has been down hard enoughto bend the stay, frame damage is worth ruling out professionally.

If the fairing has been fighting you - gaps that will not close, a screenthat sits proud on one side, fasteners that need forcing - and themotorcycle has been down, this is very often the reason.

TORQUE TO SPECIFICATIONThe stay bolts to the frame at several points, and Honda specify torquefigures. A bracket carrying the front of the motorcycle is not a place toguess, and over-tightening into aluminium strips threads.
CHECK THE RUBBER MOUNTSInstrument clusters are usually isolated from the stay by rubber grommets ormounts, to keep vibration out of the display.
On a machine of this age those rubbers have hardened. Please see thespecification above for whether any are supplied; if not, inspect theexisting ones and replace them if perished.
CBR600RRHonda's CBR600RR has been one of the defining supersports machines since2003, and the PC40 generation is widely used on track as well as on theroad.
Track use means crashes, and crashes mean front-end parts. Honda's supply ofthem is not indefinite.
